This review was seriously delayed for a number of reasons, the biggest one being that I was experimentingn with video. However, that was a complete and utter fail on my part, and I won’t make the mistake of blowing $70 on sub-par equipment again (For now). In the mean time, text will do just fine. Because of my tardiness, I’ve decided to mash together what would’ve been last week’s review with this weeks. In a way, it actually works better. Let’s see our first game:

As you can see, this game is VERY similar to the original game. Same graphics, same soundtrack, same story, but it improved on many things. First off, the game was far more difficult. Beating the first level on this game is like beating the first world on the original. Also, there are many subtle differences, such as slight upgrades in sound quality, and the fact that Mario and Luigi have differing abilities. Mario has greater traction, while Luigi can jump farther (There’s no two player component in this game, just character selection). Also, after completing the game once without using any warp zones (which remain present), you are then transported to a world called “Fantasy World”. Which, it so happens, is the perfect title for this land of butcherd physics laws. There’s underwater clouds, flagpoles, even fire! FIRE! Read the rest of this entry »

Ten Great Characters From 20 Years of Simpsons: Part Two

simpsons_couch

A few days ago I embarked on the perilous journey of choosing 10 ‘greatest’ Simpsons characters from the show’s last 20 years, not including the principal family itself.  Check selections 10 through 6 out here.  A perfectly cromulent list thus far, if I do say so myself.  The final five are even harder to decide upon because they have to stand above those already mentioned.  No easy task.  Without further ado, here are the Top 10 Simpsons characters part 2, numbers 5 to 1.  I make no apologies this time!  After all, I voted for Kodos.

ted_stevens_truck So I’ve been toying around with the Sonic & SEGA Allstars Racing Demo…and I found myself enjoying it. A lot.

I was thinking maybe I was crazy because it is essentially a kart racer that doesn’t begin with “Mario” and end with “Kart.”

Better yet, I did not need to waggle anything…except I did (in my pants). Hit the jump for some video on loan from SEGASHIRO.

Ten Great Characters From 20 Years of Simpsons: Part One

simpsons_couch

With The Simpsons’ 20-year anniversary having been on December 18th, you would think that I would make two top 10 lists, but alas my list formats were made to be followed and 10 is still a perfectly cromulent number.  After all, being 20 years old isn’t what makes The Simpsons great, its many instances of greatness do.  Of those there are surely more than 20.  While other soft news locales are writing impacting diatribes about the show’s lasting effects on a generation, I want to take it another direction and celebrate those who have helped our beloved farce of an American family reach this milestone.  Part One of my top 10 will consist of characters 10-6, with Part Two concluding later. Two games that will go down in my memory as being the reason I own a PS2 – would be Ico and Shadow of Colossus. Needless to say that the PS3 title from Team Ico has me stoked…check out the latest screens at the newly updated The Last Guardian website.

I have high hopes for where the PS3 and this title will take me.

This is like the antithesis to P.N.O3…I love the style. And don’t call it Halo. If rumors prove true this one is heading to the PS3 for sure.

Alrighty, so by this point Mario’s prestige and legacy are set in stone. He’s got fame, popularity, multiple spin-off products, and even a show with Lou Albano! (R.I.P; Cap!) So, how do you follow up on debatably the greatest video game to date? Pink, transexual, aborted egg-shooting lizards wearing Ms. Pac-Man’s bow. Yeah.

Now, I wasn’t alive during the release of this game. Therefore I can only imagine the sheer horror on the faces of all the Mario fans when they saw this box art. It’s nowhere near Mega Man box art bad, but why the hell is Mario carrying what appears to be a raddish? What is this, Cooking Mama? Is Mario a closet gardener?

One of the first things that you’ll notice upon starting up this turd is that it has next to nothing to do with it’s predecessor. Why is that, you may ask? Well, here’s the story: Read the rest of this entry »
